Me too.
I think there is a degree of over-reaction, almost bordering on paranoia, going on over this. Simply put, TF has your email from when you joined. TF is sending you a personal email newsletter drawing attention to current popular threads. End of story. No-one is selling your email address to anybody.

Social Knowledge LLC was founded in 2005 by entrepreneur Andy Robinowitz to operate & promote many forums with over 1.25 million members where people share similar interest. Social Knowledge LLC's marine branch operates SailBlogs, CruisersForum, TrawlerForum, RIBnet, Boat Mad, Maxum Owners Club, Cruiser Log and World Cruisers Wiki.

As a member of CruisersForum - TrawlerForum's sister-site, an international online community for sailboat & motorboat - for the last three years I regulary receive The Cruisers Daily Newsletter. Also I have been recently receive the - new for me - Trawler Forum Newsletter from newsletter@trawlerforum.com. I have no problem with that but I understand now that some may be partially confused. Anyway you can always unsubscribe from the newsletter or contact Andy Robinowitz - andy@socialknowledge.com - for further explanation about Trawler Forum Newsletter.

No paranoia. Best designed approach is to send membership one email describing the newsletter and it's availability, with a link to the settings page where you could turn it off and on. This then provides members with the choice to receive it or not.

Otherwise it is spam.

Sorry Sir but I don't agree.

Spam emails are usually sent to many people at once trying to get them to buy a product or sign up for a service that will cause gain for the sender. One trick used by spammers is to put a link in a message to a Scam Website or an Adult (call me Porn) website. Moreover if the person clicks on the link, a request will be sent to the server it tells the spammers that there is someone at the address so they know that you read their email, then the spammers put that person on a list of people who actually open spam messages which could cause a person to receive even more email spam.

A newsletter, even unsolicited, is a printed or electronic periodical bulletin circulated to members of a group and that was the case for us.

I don't play social media "games". And, I place under category of "Junk" the BS strays that come in upon occasion. That way the crappos of unsolicited email don't come up on my inbox once they have been Junked!

SPAM is actually unsolicited mail - paper or email, regardless of being commercial.

Under User CP/Edit Options you will see a radio button for whether or not you want to receive emails from the site. If this is not clicked than no emails should be sent.

Those who received the newsletter may have this turned on, and if they do not want to receive the newsletter they should "unclick" it. If they then receive any emails from the site, it is SPAM.

I saved it. I thought it might be something important from TF.

I got it twice, so far. Nothing wrong with it. I opened it and it was just a few of the latest posts. Seemed pretty harmless?

Open CP... read each portion down the page. You'll run across it.

Although you can use the User CP button to unsubscribe, you might prefer another option.
If you simply unsubscribe to the newsletter (link at bottom of it) you will still get regular forum notices.

Had an upsurge of email ads after recently purchasing a refrigerator from Sears. Won't provide my email to S again. (My home's new Kenmore refrigerator is working great so far.)
