Perkins 6.3544..lift pump replacement

Anyone have any experience replacing the lift pump on a Perkins 6.3544?? Any tricks or things to watch out for?? Is it as easy as unbolting old and bolting on new?? Is there a push rod that operates it or does it go directly on the cam?? Thanks, cliff

It’s very straightforward and goes right on the cam. The only thing you might want to do is position the engine so that the cam lobe that operates the pump is away from the pump to make it more likely the pump will go on ok.

Below is an image of the section of the service manual that talks about changing the pump.

Ken, thank you. If I understand correctly I can bump the engine over just by hitting the start button momentarily while holding the stop button down at the same time??? I will be able to know if the lobe is away when I loosen the 4 bolts and the pump stays quite close to the block and if is close the pump will move away from the block when I loosen the pump. Correct understanding??? All I have to do is to keep bumping the engine over until the pump is reasonably close to the block when reinstalling???

Yes to all. It should be pretty easy, but I’m like you, I like to collect as much info as possible before starting the job.
