I guess you could also use two lockout tagout jaws and a padlock to do the same thing. Use one set to clip onto some hard to remove fixture and another around the hose / cable and lock both together with a padlock.

I was told about theft of anything that wasn't bolted down when I had my boat in Melbourne marina due to a large homeless population in the area...

There are different connectors for 30 amp and 50 amp cables...

In my experience, 50 amp is two legs = 240 volts, and 30 amp is often 120 volts.

In most cases yes. The odd ball are the 50 amp 125v. Here are images of each.

The difference is that the 125/250 plug has two hit leads and the ground is on the side of the plug. The 125v has a single hot lead like a 30 amp plug but the plug configuration is different.

The splitter they stole from us was almost new after a bad dock box connection burned the previous one. We were on a brokerage dock with crews getting new boats ready and I assumed they stole it to sell to one of the new owners at a discount. The current one is not only locked with a cable but painted so if it disappears it should be easy to recognize.
Made up the cable at the WM store.
