Hmm, In Florida some of the fuel vendors have a lower price for foreign flagged vessels.
Perhaps that is not an issue to someone wanting US Documentation.

I don't think the price of fuel is a large consideration for these owners....

So they are going to pay US Sales Tax, and these yachts will no longer have the stigma of "not for sale in US Water" now that these owners are so patriotic?

Education Secretary DeVos has attracted some recent bad press over one of the family yachts. I'm guessing there's a connection.

I doubt it. Secretary DeVoss doesn’t have an ownership interest in the large family yacht and I seriously doubt Mr. Stable Genius cares about the registration of a yacht own by a relative of a cabinet member who bought their job.
Unfortunately, most of the reaction against Sec. DeVoss and the yacht was truly (as much as it pains me to say it) Fake News.

It was reported the the DeVoss family owns ten "vessels". That's pretty much a dealership.

Not necessarily. Just an extended family with LOTS of money who like their boats. Beyond that large yacht registered offshore, the other 9 “little” boats are all registered in the states.
Sec. DeVoss married into a rich family. She has LOTS of money to play with. I’m not sure she and her husband own any of the 10 boats in question. Her marrying well doesn’t bother me a bit. Buying a cabinet position that she isn’t at all qualified for, yeah that bothers me.

Sorry for the earlier comment. Looks like this has been in the works for a while. Am interested to hear more about implications though.

I know some cant understand what deep down patriotism is.... and yes there are those that blow wannabe patriotic smoke every chance they get....but for some it is real and others will live without ever feeling it.
New Law Allows Patriotic American Superyacht Owners to Finally Fly U.S. Flag – gCaptain
“For at least a half century, ridiculous regulations prohibited American citizens from displaying their patriotism by flying an American flag on their yacht,” remarked Tilman J. Fertitta, a longtime yacht owner, star of the TV show Billion Dollar Buyer, and sole owner of Landry’s Restaurants and the Houston Rockets. “With the new legislation, that ends. American yacht owners can now proudly proclaim their citizenship on their yachts. Thank you to all those that made this possible and to President Trump for eliminating over 50 years of bureaucratic red tape. This is truly an historic day for American yacht owners and the yachting industry.”

As an outsider looking in, blind patriotism leads to a "You're either with us or against us" mentality where people can be led into a war without thinking for themselves and get all riled up at Dixie Chicks record burning events.

Above is one of the best summations of rules ....
The best rule of thumb is to have true pride in the flag....the rest of the rules are pretty simple and pride will give you the incentive to learn and follow them.
You don't always have to be proud of what the country has done.... but disrespecting the flag do no good.
Flying a torn one or improperly is not patriotism like some think...it is darn near the opposite.

Those are the smoke blowers, true patriots accept flag burnings and Dixie Chicks and even those that flee rather than serve usefully as a conscientious observer, etc.
We may not like it and speak freely against those...but some even risked their lives to preserve the rights of those with that negative energy...and despite the underhanded dealings of those in power that may have other goals in mind.
True patriots accept there are other opinions and allowed in the open is what guides us to the better solutions. Agreement isn't required, but listening and hearing sometimes though distasteful is part of our heritage.
And you are not an outsider, neither is anyone who believes in basic human freedoms. All countries have patriots...those that believe either in why their country was founded or where it took turns for the better.

Pretty much non news. To start with, there are not that many yachts in the US over 300 GT. Then most of them will not make a change because they prefer to use foreign crew. Look at boats just under 300 GT and many are flagged foreign and by far the most common reason is to save by using foreign crew.
It's a nice change but hardly the game changer it's presented to be.

Good to hear and hope there are many more just like you. The narrow minded ones seem to have better access to microphones and attract more attention...

Even if it helps only one owner switch because of their patriotic feelings.....and there is no real downside for the average citizen, the hooray for the change.
Unfortunately as stated...probably won't change much because of the almighty dollar.

That's their right just like the flag burners, Dixie Chicks, deserter types, etc... I see both extremes as narrow minded...that's usually just who starts the shouting match.
What is disgusting is the fervor on both sides that continues to separate this country.
And their misguided belief that either extreme is correct.
Imagine what could be done here with some freaking statesmen instead of politicians.
Back to the topic...getting people to be proud enough to take the almighty dollar out of their pockets to put the flag on their yachts is a good thing...provided there is little or no blowback on the average US citizen.
