HNY to all of you. We're heading down to the club in a bit for a Roaring 20's party that should be a blast. We'll force ourselves to stay until midnight then depart for home. We'll have a dog at home that doesn't like loud noises and will be ready to be comforted.

New decade - not!

Okay let's count, 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9..10 So ten is the end of the first decade, now onto the next count:

11..12..13..14..15..16..17..18..19..20 so twenty is the end of the second decade, the number 21 is the beginning of the third decade.

We went through all of this in the year 2000 which was heralded as the beginning of the 3rd millennium, but if we were to continue the count as I have above you would understand that 2000 is the end of the millennium.

Same deal with 2020, if we were to continue the count, it would be 2011.. 2012..2013..2014..2015..2016..2017..2018..2019..20 20, so twenty twenty is the end of that decade.

And hence the famous movie 2001, which symbolized the beginning of the new millennium and not a movie called 2000.

But regardless, Happy New Year.

In this day and age, is it really "politically correct" to say "Happy New Year"???
After all, maybe some here follow the Mayan (or some other) calendar!
Happy New year to all, and best wishes to our Australian members who are experiencing those horrific wildfires!

After you live one full year, not till 12 Midnight on the last day of that year have you [for an instant] lived 1 full year; i.e. for an instant being 1 year old. Midnight tonight our 2019 calendar will for an instant actually have ended the 10 year decade cycle that started at 12 midnight on 2009 - providing passage through - 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 which = 10 years [one full decade] that has passed us onto the new decade that starts its countdown tonight at midnight. 2020 is the first year of his new decade that ends at close of 2029. But, let's not rush things!

Happy New Year! and Happy New Decade Too!!
