Im buying a 1980 34 CHB Trawler and its in good shape but im worried because the deck has soft spots.
I know it cant be good news but I was wondering how bad that problem is?

LTS, you are right, soft deck spots are not a good thing. Possible rotting of deck core, leaks to interior, possible rust on tanks and a host of other expensive issues.

How advanced is your GRP skill set?

You can patch it , repair it or fix it .

Adding to FF's post....

You can patch it and keep on patching it, repair it repeatedly or fix it.

Welcome to the forum! We refer to these as project boats. Have you had it surveyed? Getting a professional opinion would be a good idea in this situation. Will also be important to check around the windows to see if they have leaked and there is rot in the cabin walls.

Greetings,
Welcome aboard. As Mr. OC noted. A survey should tell you the extent of the damage to the deck as well as other potential trouble spots (money pits). IF you haven't had a survey done put off the deal until you can have one done. IF the deck has soft spots, it is NOT "in good shape" as you state.
