Need Some Advice From South Louisiana People and Beyond.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
There was one offshore rig fabrication yard across the canal from me that complained to the parish saying they didn’t want to have “million dollar yachts” next door. I had a plan with about 50 slips covered and uncovered. I’m building boat/trailer sheds for now on the property, they will all be +13 ft above sea level. Cypremort Point just south of us has a small marina but there is no room and no protection from storms.

Man that sucks. It would have been a good economic boon for that area. Louisiana isn't really that friendly to boaters.

Hey Tete!

Just my $.02. Madisonville would be my choice hands down. Either Beau Chene or Hidden Harbor marinas. If ya leave early morning from BR you're just 45 to an hour away to your boat. All over the Northshore are mechanics, AC and electrical specialists that make boat calls which offers great support.
Best advice earlier was to spend $200,000 then use the $100,000 for upgrades. You might consider the Hat 53ft motor yacht with the DDs (stabilized). There are some great deals out there on this series. Enjoy your search!

That might be the best if I can't find anything closer. The commute back and forth might kill me though. I tend to work some crazy hours as a small business owner. But it still might be the best bet.

You think they would get mad if I just tide up to the USS Kidd?

Hats are on the top of my list. They look pretty roomy and with 100k I could do some serious upgrades. I think there is a 53 Hat for sale in Madisonville that might give me a better idea if it is the right fit.

BTW, if there is any interest I'm putting a boat up for sale it's 65 x 18.5 custom rebuilt in 1999 solid mahogany interior. 2 - 6 cylinder MAN diesels. Haven't listed it yet. It's in Empire, LA.

Gorgeous boat. I have to go down the river for a cochon de lait for my cousin's fundraiser Oct 28.

Several marinas in the Springfield area and one on the diversion canal out side of Maurepas. I don't know what side of BR you work on but either would be a quick trip to work it you take the back roads.
If you know someone who has a place on the diversion you could try and work something out with them to leave a boat there.

The Stephensville area could be an option. Not really a marina but I know a place on Four Mile Bayou that has a few slips available.
The problem with the Pierre Part area is Lake Veret and Belle River north of the Belle River bridge has silted in so much that I kick up mud in a 25' bay boat.

Pierre Part would be a hell of a commute for me.

Thanks for the other suggestions. Getting a lot of good ideas from y'all.

We have one in blood river marina. Think there is some open slips. It’s private and have to have a gate code to drive into the marina by land. I can be from the marina to my shop In 45 min. Make em wet would be my other choice in Springfield.

Awesome thanks. My shop is off of Monetary. Where is that in relation to you? Just trying to see if I have to add or subtract time.

Right around the corner from you. On South Choctaw one building down from airway. I live in Baton Rouge. Stay on the boat a lot and drive back and forth. It's not bad Hammond has lots of food and what not and its a 10 min drive. Springfield has what you need and a few places to eat. It's very quite also.

You related to Jerry? That’s nice. I’ll be there.

When we started looking for a boat I spent a lot of time searching online. My usual suspects were boats.com, boattrader.com, boatingbay.com, powerboatlistings.com, and their FSBO subsite, yachtworld.com, has less low end boats, also search craigslist in boat heavy markets like Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, Pensacola, etc.
Many searches and further research on possible contenders gave us a long list of boats we did not want, and a shorter one of makes and models to go look at in person to refine our guesses as to what would suit us.
Welcome aboard, and good luck with the learning experience. JohnS

dockage near Baton Rouge

While looking in Madisonville, take a look at Blood River Marina nearby Springfield and Pontchatoula. Nice covered slips. Had my boat there for a while and still have freinds with boats there. Well protected as well.

About choice of boats, think smaller than larger!

+10 for mentioning your Parin (Parrain), takes me back in time.
Not sure how small (relatively speaking) you want to go but you may want to give DeFever 44's and 49 CMY's (Cockpit Motor Yacht) a look. The engine room will spoil you for most others in that size range and many larger boats too. Full width master. Hard top over huge aft deck and plenty of room on the fly bridge. There are larger and faster DeFevers as well. Full disclosure, I may be a little biased since I own one, but we've been happy with it for the four years we've had it.

On order. Looking forward to getting it in the mail.

Betrams are nice. Really, if it has a wood interior and a nice galley. I'm happy. It will take me some time to narrow down what I want especially since I haven't been on any of them yet.

We sold our 42 Catalina sailboat last year and started looking fir our perfect Bahamas motor cruiser. We ended up with a Bertram 42 motor yacht that a previous owner had redone the interior of in teak.

The quality of everything in it it and especially exploring the guts, made it an easy choice. One well built boat.
The amount of room in a 42 foot power boat as opposed to a 42 foot sailboat, was dramatic.

Thanks John. Really good tip on looking at Craigslist. Would have never have thought about that.

I've kind of narrowed it down but, like you said, I need to start getting on boats and getting a feel for them.

I don't mind a smaller boat. Just don't want to be claustrophobic. I had a pretty big room on a drilling rig but after awhile the walls would close in. Looking forward to meeting y'all.

I don't mind going smaller. The most room I need is in the galley and closets for hanging clothes.

Thanks for all the help.

Hey hard head...Haven’t been on the site for a while and came across your post while looking around. Have you made any progress? We live in Madisonville and keep our boat at Marina Beau Chene.
My hubby spent his summers in Grand Isle as a kid/teen. He owns a home in Larose (know anybody down there looking to buy a house? It’s for sale! Lol)

I also recommend Pud’n and Jerry Waller. They are good friends of ours and helped us buy both of our boats.

I second everything she said.

Man I have been pretty busy at work and when I get home, I don't want to look at any type of screens.

I love Grand Isle. Grew up there in the summers working at my Paw Paw's marina and shrimp shed.

I've thought about Madisonville but I think the commute would kill me. Might have to wait a bit.

Thanks for the tips. Now back to work. My boss (me) is a slave driver.
