I’ve seen pots out as far as the 400’ mark. I like,to be in 500’ of water before night.

And Ive had to dodge them in the no crab pot zone identified on the charts. Even worse is the fishermen who just leave there pots in the water after the season ends. Or the native’s who use black bouy’s.

My last two runs between San Diego and Washington during crab season i had to run 600 ft deep to keep clear. That can be as much 25 miles off the beach at timed. As mentioned prior we're never pot free. Illegal, abandoned and native pots are always out there.

“Three people aboard the "Deadliest Catch" boat Mary B II were pronounced dead after their vessel capsized off the coast of Newport, Oregon on Tuesday, officials said.”
