I have been hearing about the Mississippi river being extremely low and possibly caused by earthquakes. It didn't come from the mainstream media so it raises concerns for me. Anyone else hear about this?

The USGS-Missouri Water Science Center compared the River’s average flowrate upstream and downstream of the New Madrid fault and found no evidence of “missing” flow volume. During the 9/10 to 10/9/17 period, Mississippi River + Ohio River flow ≈ 217,000 cubic feet per second. At Memphis, downstream of the New Madrid fault, flow was ≈ 249,000.

There was still plenty of water in it when I crossed this morning at New Orleans. The Carrolton gage was at about 3’. The low water reference is 0.6’, with the record low at -1.6’.

Think we’re OK.

Tis the season for low water. Nobody here seems worried. I'm offloading right near New Orleans and it's business as usual.
