Looking for a name

Not the most informative title in the world, I suppose, but I am not sure what else to put because that is exactly what I am trying to come up with. On my sailboat I used to have a little knob in the aft cockpit locker. Pull it up and the fuel for the diesel would shut off. Obviously there was a cable which ran from the knob down to the engine. What would be the name of that entire cable assembly? Probably used to have the same thing on the old cars where you would pull the choke out from the dashboard to start a cold engine.
