Give Judy Waldman a call. She is a trawler specialist from Ft. Lauderdale but she handles sales all over the country. I've been working with her to find a replacement to Moonstruck. She is very knowledgeable and patient. She owns JW Yachts. (954) 895-8844.

Good suggestion. She's been around for a while. In the mid-2000's, JW Yachts rep'd one of the of the offshore brands - Cape Horn? When I was doing Trawler Fests, I chatted with her at several different events. She was super pleasant and helpful in addition to being knowledgeable. She helped a number of entry-level trawler folks she met at Trawler Fest so she definitely understands the sales' cycle.

Good luck!

Peter

Buyer Broker

If you are considering the east coast of Florida (Jacksonville) I can highly recommend Mike Webster of Hansen Yachts (904-923-0033). I met Mike when he had a boat listed that I was interested in buying. He was extremely patient and listened to what I was looking for and how we planned to use the boat (wanted to do the loop). He explained What I should require and what to avoid. Although, I didn’t end up buying that boat, I was so impressed with Mike’s Professionalism, integrity and knowledge that I subsequently ask him to serve as my buyer’s broker. After finding and buying a boat with Mikes help, he was a tremendous help in guidance of repairs. A testament to his success and performance is that he has sold many boats multiple times to satisfied buyers. I believe his record is selling the same boat seven times over many years. I think this speaks volumes about customer satisfaction.
Best of luck in your search.

If you are looking in the Ft Myers Fl area, I have a 1990 Aquarius 45’ motor yacht that we are getting ready to list. If interested in additional information let me know.
We have done the Bahamas, the Keys, up the west coast of Florida and up the ICW to NY.
We are looking to down size. It is set up for live aboard

I second the suggestion of Steve as consultant And Jeff as broker. Unless you want a Nordhavn, then anyone there will be excellent .

I used Justin Williams from Gulf Coast Hatteras and he is extremely knowledge in not only sport fishers but trawlers and motor yachts as well. His diverse knowledge really is helpful and he’s been in the business long enough to know the ins and outs. There are some real dirt bags in the brokerage world so interview them carefully and thoroughly but most of all do NOT use the sellers broker only.

Encourage you to contact Bill Harris, Fort Pierce, broker for KadeY-Kroger. Honest, communicative, knowledgeable and 5 star all the way. Also Julee Jackson at Grand Banks. Same as above.

Depends on your budget. Zimmerman’s Yacht Purchase Service is excellent, but their minimum is $200k and you pay a portion of their broker fees up front (receiving Credit for service in any of their yards for any unused balance net if their travel expenses (not time)). If u r fortunate enough to be looking at or above this price range, their expertise is fantastic and they do all the leg work for you or with you as you prefer. They do not usually act as a sellers broker. Our experience With Steve & Haywood was outstanding - they usually knew most of the boats we expressed interest in and, if not, they got the low down from the listing brokers plus sold boat data. They basically do a mini survey with you before u put in an offer plus limited warranty for any significant defects not found by Mike Previti during purchase survey & sea trial - hard to beat.

Another good alternative who works as a traditional buyers& sellers broker is Curtis Stokes -especially for loop boats.

Also recommend Curtis Stokes

Based on our experience with Curtis Stokes and his reps in the gulf and east coast, highly recommended as both a consultant and buyer's rep.

I'm Looking for recommendations for a buyers broker on the Gulf or East coast (Or maybe 2) who can help me with my search. I have looked at a few boats over the years while on vacation and have at least a basic idea of what I want. (Or more importantly what I don't want)
Any recommendations or referral's would be greatly appreciated and we can discuss the anchor issue later.
Wow you have been given some great advise. Having just bought my boat, let me share some thoights. 1.) Regime what you want to do besides sleep and shower on your boat. 2.) Where do you want to go on your boat, how fast. 3.) Do you care how much your moorage fee will be? 4.) I looked at Catermerans because they give lots of living space and multi spaces for stuff. Best of luck on your journey.

Well I finished my search along the coast of Texas and although I was able to look at a few boats and get a better feeling of what I was looking for, nothing really interested me. For the second leg of the trip I took some of you folks advice and called some brokers that you recommended. One of the brokers never bothered to call me back but fortunately I also called Judy Waldman at jwyachts 954-895-8844 and let me tell you things took off from there. You guys were right, she is amazing.

She spent time to figure out what I wanted to do and sent me multiple listings to look at the first day I called her. We talked about various boats and what I didn't so that she could help narrow it down before I hit the road looking at them live.

I took my two 13 year old grand daughters along with our 90 pound bone head dog for this leg of the hunt and it has turned into a trip that none of us will ever forget. The girls truely got into the search giving me a perspective on every boat that we looked at that I never would have noticed without them being along. They took pictures, made notes, crawled around bilges and talked about everything they saw.

Judy was able to line out viewings and routes along with a few beach stops for the girls along the way as well as finding the answers to every question I could come up with.

So when the evening came along when the girls and I were discussing and looking at the pictures of what we had looked at that day and suddenly it was being compared to every boat we had ever looked at Judy took it from there.

We made an offer that night and I felt that Judy had my back the whole way. Counter offers, hull survey, engine surveys, renegociations, paperwork and finally the closing today. 1986 Viking aft cabin and it is mine.

Thanks you guys for the recommendation and Judy, you are the best.

Congrats on your new baby. Glad to hear of young ones getting into boating. Makes you feel good. Now put them to work in the tight places that us old fat guys have trouble getting into. Have fun!!!

Great that you took the time to close the loop. So glad it worked out well for you.

Given the prominent role your grand daughters played, I pass along a piece of advice I received from the previous owner of my boat 22 years ago when I purchased her: be careful about granting naming rights to small children as he had done. The name of our Willard 36 at the time? "Shy Platypus."
