Beware! New shrimp permit needed in SE Alaska

We just became aware of a new regulation that requires a permit to take sport shrimp in SE Alaska. This is on top of needing to have a sportfish license. The permit is free, but does have a record keeping and reporting requirement. You can get the permit online through the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

This information is not well known or well disseminated. None of our resident friends were aware of it nor was the local press and radio stations. We only found out because we are on an email notification for the ADF&G.

Thanks for the heads-up. I knew nothing about this permit being required. Picked up a permit this morning from ADFG in Ketchikan.

It would appear it only applies to SE. ADFG does this from time to time to get numbers and places.....
