“Denis and Mary Umstot are two veteran cruisers who were early adapters of the cruising under power lifestyle. Their many years of cruising and traveling to over 40 countries by sea helped pave the way for all of us who have followed.
Both Denis and Mary were major contributors to the educational side of cruising. Mary was the author of two books- Cruising in the Mediterranean and a children’s book, How Boats Work. Denis authored the fourth edition of Robert Beebe’s classic, Voyaging Under Power.
In May of 2021, Jeff Merrill caught up with Denis and Mary Umstot in Anacortes, WA and listened as they recounted some of their exploits aboard their Robert Beebe designed long-range trawler, TEKA III.”
