Interesting article about backing plates

I was looking at info about different material to make a bunch of backing plates and found the following article:

https://www.practical-sailor.com/boa...ate-need-to-be

Found it interesting.

I’ve been a Practical Sailor reader for years and they generally know what they are talking about. However, if you read this article and note how many times “expensive” or “savings” are mentioned, the article could be used as a drinking game. Just saying.

Well what I found interesting was more the test of different materials than the wording. I am looking at making a bunch of back plates and was wondering about stainless steel vs laminated fiberglass vs plywood/fiberglass sandwich.
