The wife and I decided to call our previous boat which was a 33'Olympic M/Y,
Sea'esta which literally means' this Sea place' We named our GB the same
People usually like it,We do.

I named one of my earlier boats Fog Dart. Almost immediately I began to hate the name. When I sold it the buyer asked me if I minded if he kept the name. There is no accounting for taste.

We named our trawler Wata World in part after the movie and second as a saying What a World but we have thought of chaging the name to One N Done because that is about all the fish I catch off of it!

I have a new boat to name and have been thinking about MISTRESS QUICKLY. This was the name of a somewhat famous, early big boat; i.e. one of the early maxi sailboats. I always remembered the name though I never had a chance to race on her.

Interestingly enough this is the name of a Shakespeare character that appears in several plays. It really has a nice ring to it though a few too many letters but it might be a nice conversation starter.

I also think that the name of my Hot Air Balloon would be good for a boat. "MahNa MahNa"

Interesting and funny to see it on that second film if it's ingrained "muppets" in ones' mind. After looking, I was curious because the composer's name sounded Italian. The information below the clip says it was a mid-80's Italian film (with Swedish actors).

It's a fun name (MahNA mahNA), but I don't think I could stop myself singing it in my head constantly! (As it is I'll be doing that for a few hours now.)

My Father had a few boats in his day. His favorite fishing boat was an old Reinell 24' Its name (spelled out in mail box letters) I AM E-Z 2

I think names for boats should say something very descriptive about the boat. Like a very narrow boat might be called “Slim Jim” or one of my boats that I designed to be smooth riding as “Easy Rider”.

But turning a boat name into a joke is at least very bad taste.

But many to most of us don’t have great imaginations so coming up w original one of a kind names is difficult. But there’s always “Mary Jane” or “Sharon Ann”. Or “Chatham Traveler” if you live on Chatham Strait.

But I like names that flatter the boat most.

So 80 some posts on this thread and no one had pointed out that the OP has a boat name that can't be pronounced without being phonetically spelled out (unless you are familiar with the area)? Which is worse, cute or unpronounceable?

I guess I fall under the cute/humerus guilty parties with Chasing 80. We had the name before the boat as we both knew that we never wanted to see snow again. For this I apologize to those offended.

Gotta say that the best name I ever saw was on a classic Hatteras owned by a southern gentleman....My Dixie Wrecked....

Any local boater worth his "salt" knows how to spell/pronounce "Carquinez." What better way is there to identify those unfamiliar with my waters? Yet, have never been hailed without the correct pronunciation.

Actually, my first thought when you said "Chasing 80, was that you were in your 70's when you purchased the boat!

"Morning Wood" was the worst boat name we ever ran across, in Isthmus Harbor on Catalina Island. The owner was very proud of it and even asked others over VHF if the "got it" !

A good samaritan (very professional and competent on the radio) had a boat named "Adult Toy". While he was helping rescue a boat and communicating with the CG the CG officer insisted on referring to his boat as "Dull Toy".

Boat Names

My first boat of consequence was a 26' Wellcraft Martinque named "Blondie", which is the nickname for my wife. We loved that boat and had many great times aboard. The next boat was a 33' Sea Ray Sundancer named Judy Ann, after my recently passed mother-in-law. That boat was awful and broke down all the time. I sold it after just two years. Then we moved up to our current vessel, a 42' Navigator which of course, I named 'Blondie II". Good times are rolling again ! Never name your boat after your mother-in-law, even if you liked her and she is dead.....

My old uncle once suggested I name my then-boat using the first 2 letters of my kids' names. It would've been "Anbecojo". It didn't resonate with me, so I chose music-related names.

Our last boat was named "Anchors Aweigh" by the previous/original owner since he was a retired Navy Chief. We kept the name to honor him and also my own time spent in the Navy. The boat was in the Marina for about 35 years and was a fixture down at the docks, as was the owner. They still refer to the boat as "the Chief's boat", so we call it the "The Chief" for short.

Previously we had several boats named Willow, and one called Encore after we started boating again after a hiatus.

Lucky for us we never named one "Last Boat". Nothing like "Last Boat VI"
