Hi I have a heritage east sundeck 40 with Perkins engines. Am I right in saying the rev counter come from the alternator or is it off the gearbox. The problem I have it the Rev counter on the starboard engine doesn’t work. I have tried a new gauge as I had one but still nothing.

Not a direct answer, but if you have a working gauge, swap the gauges around. You can test all of the gauges and the signal.


If the alternator senses no load and sees no reason to make power, it might not register. Might use a jumper to put a load on the alternator.

It comes off the alternator. Will always give a reading, draw or not.

Here is a link to a thread where people reported tachs not working until a load made the alternator charge. Is that the problem? Don't know.
