Help to find boat height for transport

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I have a true story here to explain why I don't like this kind of answer.

A few years back I asked a very reputable Ferrari shop about a Testarossa I wanted to buy.

He asked me if it was number XXXX and I said yes. He told me to stay away from this car because it was neglected and repainted and bla bla bla.
The car I looked at was WAY from being that.

I also told him I was on a tight budget and this car was priced right for mr and he told me if I was on a tight budget I couldn't afford a Testarossa.
(who the F... are you to tell me that when you don't know me)

I ended up buying the car. I was VERY HAPPY to own it.
People were telling me it was in like new condition. Experts couldn't tell me if it was repainted or not looking at it. It looked perfect.

It is actually probably my best purchase in my car life. And this guy with no facts was telling me to stay away from it and that I couldn't afford a Testarossa. I sold it a few years after and still regret it sometimes.

NOW PLEASE
for those who know give me a measure.

Thanks !

I agree that some of the responses here are a bit on the harsh side and a little judgmental not knowing your entire situation. but why is it so difficult to just measure the boat? If it's in the water, use the advertised draft and add another 6". Then measure the boat up from the waterline in segments and add them all together. If the boat is on the hard, obviously you can start at the keel and do the same thing. Some boats have air draft specs that you can add to the draft, but better to measure to be sure, especially if you are removing the upper helm.

I'm not where the Boat is. I now have all the neded info.
I mandate someone to go get the measures for me.

Thanks for everyones help.

boat transport

HI everyone.

I need help finding the height of the boat I'm buying for the transport company.

It's a 1981 Mainship 40 pilothouse.
Would like to know without the upper helm.

I don't know, but my GB 36 is 17' from the keel to the top of the flybridge, necessitating removal of the entire structure. I chose not to do that for a lot of reasons. Nevertheless, not counting the cost of removing and replacing the FB, at 26,000 lbs, with the escort vehicles and permits, it was going to cost me between 5 and 7 thousand dollars to ship it from Pensacola, Fl to Jacksonville, Fl- 375 miles, if that gives you any idea of cost. If you haven't already bought the boat, I would find one closer to you that doesn't have to be disassembled and shipped by truck then reassembled. The number of things that can go wrong are almost too numerous to list.

Bryant, may I ask why you are choosing to run the boat across I-10 rather than run in down through Lake O and up to Jax? I have always enjoyed that option rather than transport over the road. I trucked my GB 42 from San Diego to Galveston in 1990 with the flying bridge in place. Cost 9800 bucks back then and was told the cost more than doubled east of the Mississippi. I wanted it in Panama City, but elected the ICW run from Galveston to PC and glad we did.

That's a reasonable question. And I've considered it.
First, my single Ford Lehman has 7700 hours on it. That's not an issue for how we use the boat, but that trip from P'cola to Jax would add a lot of hours to the engine on top of what we do annually. Dealing with Gulf Coast weather, potential beak downs, the high cost of transient slips along the Florida Coast if that happens are all issues. Secondly: if I could go ICW the entire way I might consider it but there is no ICW from Apalachicola to Tarpon Springs. That's a 25 hour open water crossing through the Gulf for just my wife and myself. If I had a sailboat I'd probably consider that. Not with a Trawler. That's just me. Thirdly:I have no radar or Autohelm, so I'd have to have that installed before the trip which would be a waste of money for the way we use the boat. Lake O is an off and on proposition these days. Due to the algae, it's closed a lot of the time and you never know when that will be. If it's closed, now you have to go outside around the tip of Fl and up to Islamorada before you get back to the ICW on the Atlantic coast.
We aren't going to transport the boat down I-10 for numerous reasons. I'm probably going to move it to Carrabelle, Fl.

Just 375 miles? Why not run the boat on its bottom? ... Me? spent almost $30K ten years ago to ship my boat from China to California. I was not about to transit a 35--foot boat on its bottom across the Pacific.

375 miles by I-10. 1000 by water. Several hundred of that in open water across the Gulf as there is no ICW on a significant part of the route. Lots of hours on an engine with 7700 hrs already. All kinds of other reasons.

I understand your reasons, and for you, they make sense. I would note that I have run across the Big Bend to Tarpon Springs from Carrabelle/Dog Island numerous times, once without radar when ours failed. It can be a really serene ride at times, other times, not so much. I mostly ran my GB42 all over the place not paying attention to the radar. However, lack of an AP would be a REAL pain. I never so much as backed out of the slip but what I put the AP to work!

We are on your way to Carrabelle here in PC and would be glad to offer you a slip with power and water should you need. Most marinas here are OOC due to Hurricane Michael damage. Shoot me a PM if you wish so we can exchange particulars.

Thank you so much for the offer. We haven't decided what to do with the boat yet. We love the boating in Pensacola but the 6 hour drive to and from is getting to be a pain. Carrabelle would be a better fit for us, I think. I will let you know if we decide to move. Thanks again for the hospitable offer.
