Finally sold the stink pot, now we can resume our search for another sailboat. No offense to the many members of TF, but we spent much time, effort and money to try and make this boat ours, but it just didn't click.

The sad part is that we had our dream boat back in the early 2000s, we just didn't realize it at the time. We lived aboard and cruised for six years and then decided we wanted something a little different. Since then we bought and sold a small sailing cat and then the aft cabin trawler recently sold.

It wasn't so much the make and model, we worked on it for two years before moving aboard so it was just the way we wanted things. It was an Irwin centercockpit cutter rigged ketch, four sails to play with. Other than the watermaker and washing machine, the thing we really miss is the big cockpit. It was long enough to nap in, seated six to eight for Happy Hour, with more on the back deck, sitting at the back of the cockpit you could see all around while the autopilot drove the boat. My wife made a full enclosure so we stayed dry in the rain and warm when it was cold or blowing.
The one drawback was that it was a flush deck so the only windows below where the ports in the hull. In a marina all you could see were legs going by. The boat was equipped for cruising, so once we moved back on land there was a lot of equipment we really didn't need anymore so we thought we would try something else, maybe with big windows. After buying the trawler we quickly realized that in Texas, big windows are not all that desirable.

Good luck, the previous owner of my boat was a long time sailor He sold it, a Shannon 40 something, to buy a trawler, about a year later decided he enjoyed sailing more so he sold it the trawler to me.

There are times I wish I had split the difference for a motorsailer..

Then there are time I wish I had a 20 plus knot boat.

Then there are times I wish........

But it is rare that I ever wish I went back to a sailboat....

whatever floats your boat...so to speak.

We happily made the transition from sail to Trawler. As my wife said at the time,
"Those stinkpots don't smell nearly as bad as they used to!"

I chartered a Nauticat 44 for a couple weeks. Seemed like an optimal compromise.

Considered motorsailer but never found one in our price range that we liked. Funny thing about sailboats. In my younger days I owned several different Porsches, all used, autocrossed, ran hillclimbs, rebuilt engines and so forth. Loved all that mechanical stuff. Then one day a friend took me out on his Hobie and I was hooked. Bought one a week later.
