This probably will never come to fruition as the GPS system is too vital to our survival but it is a glimpse behond the scenes of the battles that must be one by interested parties....
On Friday it was reported that the Federal Communications Commission will approve the proposal of satellite company Ligado (formerly LightSquared) to convert its U.S. satellite license into a 5G license. This change would cause varying levels of interference to the GPS system and satellite broadcasts, potentially jeopardizing aviation safety. ALPA has opposed Ligado and LightSquared proposals since 2011 and is currently working with others in the industry to stop the FCC from acting on Ligado’s request. Several Members of Congress have made statements and written to the FCC and other federal agencies expressing opposition. Expect more on this issue in the coming weeks.
