A different Captain gig -

Some of you know that I do deliveries and take on different Captain gigs in my retirement years. Everyone once in a while something out of the ordinary comes along.
Rap star Nelly is performing at the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend and I just got the call to Captain a 45' Cantius Cruisers Yachts for Nelly and his entourage on Friday and Saturday.
Everyone is like 'holy sh*t' and I had to google up Nelly to find out who it was.
I may need to go to church on Sunday.
The best part is being able to play with Volvo's new POD drives.
Pictures will follow.

That should be an interesting little job, as long as they don't decide to rehearse the show en-route!!!.

Just make sure you have plenty of cotton wool to stick in your ears and try not to throw anyone overboard!!

This is one my recent favorites from him, of course it's a remix but he's got some cool tunes. I'm 37 so that might be why I like it.

Cool to be able to drive that new boat....not so much to chauffer them around if the music's blasting.

Take your ear plugs.

I know about bringing ear plugs, water and food. And something to read if we stop somewhere.
I captain a lot of boats for the younger crowd. I even know how to bluetooth an Iphone into the stereo so they can play their tunes. :-)
I just got told no cameras this weekend so pics might not happen.
Still pumped about getting my hands on the POD drives.

My very first Captains job in the late 70's was a cruise with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and "friends". It has been a life changing experience! HAVE FUN!

What happens on the boat stays on the boat. First rule of keeping your job. No photos, no comments!

My business puts me in opportunities to be around people in the music business. While I haven't been around Nelly, people at his level aren't generally problems. His guests might be though, but I kind of doubt that too. It's usually fans that bring the trouble.

And someone will have a camera, so ask them for a photo of you and Nelly for the record. Other than that one bit of "fame", just treat him like any other ordinary joe and they most often appreciate it more than you know.

Epic weekend.
27 hours at the helm of a 2014 Cantius 45. The Volvo IPS600's were great. Absolutely no bow rise bringing the boat up to plane. Cruised at 22knot @ 3000rpm. IPS600 - Engine Range : Volvo Penta
Multiple groups of concert production people and "VIPs". Delivered here and there to different locations. Mostly waterfront bar/restaurants.
I did more dockings in two days than I do in my boat in a year. The POD joystick is "cheating" but fun.
Did pick up Nelly @ 10pm from private residence Sat and deliver him to the concert (which was underway) and took him back after the VIP party somewhere around 3am Sunday. Non event.
I lost my 'first mate' shortly after that. He fell in love with a KC Chiefs cheerleader and wanted to follow her 'home'. He did say please several times.
Finally, I had a nice quiet 10 mile ride back to the marina where I single handed a side tie at the boats home dock. 5am as I stepped off the boat and headed for my truck.
Great to get paid to burn a $1000 worth of fuel through to a brand new boat in air conditioned comfort....still a 'trawler guy' though.

I'm jealous. Not in who's on the boat, I grew up in Manhattan after all, but in not having to worry about the cost of the fuel or of something breaks.

Have fun.
