I have read with great interest different articles on converting the manual (belt driven) raw water pump to an electrical pump. I have an older 6.5 Onan gas generator. I decided to convert to an 115V AC pump connected to the AC output of the generator. A pretty straight forward conversion.

Now my question. The belt on the generator is adjusted by the raw water pump. What I did was to "gut" the stock pump except for the bearing and use this as my belt adjuster. The bearing are sealed so all I have is the 2 bearings supporting the shaft and pulley.

Does anyone see an issue with this? -- I've run the gen and all seems well. However, I haven't run it for an extended period. The little time I have run the gen, I haven't noticed any abnormal heat in the pump/belt adjuster.

Looking for suggestions and/or comments.

Thanks
