Erie Canal shut down for quite a while

Don't know if this has been posted on TF. The Erie canal suffered some significant damage from hurricane Irene. Portions on the canal will closed for quite a while until some of the locks and damns get repaired.

RE: Erie Canal shut down for quite a while

Doe anyone know of folks planning on taking advantage of the November opening?
We'd really like to talk to them.
Thanks
Dave

RE: Erie Canal shut down for quite a while

I just came down the Champlain canal. The lock guys said they would be very suprised if the Erie opened at all before next summer.

Only a few boats, mostly Canadian sailors, on the Champlain Canal.
