The only bit of misleading advice that I saw was cutting and splicing wires.

It isn't foolproof but it isn't brain surgery.

Old school dumb depth transducers are cut up all the time. RADAR cables and GPS cables have more limitations and you should get guidance if unsure.

So no need to panic if these cables are damaged or cut accidently.
