While reading this I was also watching a 60 minutes segment on kids who have a lawsuit against the government over climate change affecting their future. I imagine at some point it will actually get to trial and probably has a much more than 50/50 chance of winning. The feds are doing all they can to stop it from ever getting to trial.

Who are the plaintiffs and defendants in that suit? And if they win, then what? Who pays the damages? Meanwhile this is the coldest, wettest summer I can ever remember here in South Dakota in the Lower 48. City closed the pools because it's too cold, late June...

IIRC, there were about 20 kids who claim that US government policies are contributing to global warming and thereby causing harm to their long term health. I donít think they are asking for damages, but are suing the government to force it to change it current environmental and energy policies.

The government has been trying to get the suit tossed out for a variety of reasons (since the Obama administration). The latest I heard was that they argued it in a federal court in Oregon a couple weeks ago. I havenít heard if the court allowed the suit to go forward or not.

A reminder - last year some gormless dork started a beach fire during a fire ban at Pendrell Sound and subsequently burnt up a lot of trees. Use a little common sense in parks and wilderness, fighting climate change is a waste of time if we act like idiots and set fire to everything.

The 60 minute segment said the Supreme Court has allowed the suit to continue twice.

We've been getting some rain, but the clouds are coming from inland so have dropped their moisture on mountains to the east. The clouds used to come mostly from the Pacific, so our mountains would get first dibs on the rain.

These are not our normal clouds...

Fire danger

The comment about the danger of dried up forests burning reminded me of what our local NW Florida forestry officials are saying. Few people now even remember hurricane Michael, and a recent poll INSIDE Florida shows 75% think we have recovered and need no financial help, but a dire threat remains. Before the storm there was roughly 4 tons of fuel per acre to feed fires; now there is 100 tons per acre over a wide area stretching from landfall at Mexico Beach up into Alabama and Georgia. Once fire gets going here, the fire officials are saying we will need air tankers by the fleet to help put them out, and what if the western US fire season sucks all the tanker resources up? We'll burn until we don't have anything left to burn. Within our one county (Bay) we have topped the all-time FEMA record for debris removal following a natural disaster, and having spent over 32 years worth of local government budgets borrowing 500 million dollars to remove tens of millions of tons (mostly trees), and we are still going strong nine months later piling it up just a quarter mile from me . Stay tuned and keep your radars tuned if we light up here cuz the smoke is coming your way.
