Relapse's occur most often when they no longer realize how hard it is not to drink, start thinking it's easy. Some signs are things like dropping AA or counseling, associating more with drinkers and in settings of high consumption and temptation. With most who are successful, staying sober is a challenge every day of their life. They remind themselves how good sober feels and how bad it really got before. They also address whatever other mental illnesses might have led them to drink to excess or to self medicate, or what life conditions.

It's a very complex subject for both of us. Our caring side for others tells us how difficult it is, the struggle those addicted go through and how tough the fight is. It also tells us how much they're suffering from whatever is going on in their lives. However, as children of alcoholics, we also know first hand the pain inflicted on others, the toll it takes.

As a result, we have within our business a very good program for treatment and assistance and support. We treat it like other illnesses. Also, like other illnesses, we expect adherence to the treatment plan. On the other hand on a personal basis we won't have anything to do with an alcoholic who doesn't seek treatment. It's complex emotions as we feel deeply for them but we don't want to be around them. There are many who suffer with every alcoholic. Spouses, children, parents, siblings, and friends. It's not intentional pain the alcoholic inflicts and they're suffering pain themselves, but the pain for others is very real and often very severe.

unfortunately we all realize there is another relapse around the corner.

You are one of the early posters on TF, good to see you still keeping in touch. As to the above, I hope not, for both you & your family's sake.

All the best.
