Do not be in a hurry to renew documentation

Recently received a renewal notice from the USCG. Unfortunately, I replied too soon. So while my current documentation expires in December of this year, my renewal only extends to October 2019. Being responsive cost me two months!

OTOH, if you wish to change the time of year when doc renews, renewing early can do that.

I chose to do that so that my doc renewal now comes during the winter, when I am at home, rather than in midsummer, when I am out in the wilds. Cost me only a few bucks.

From the USCG site...

"CODs renewed more than 60 days prior to expiration will be issued with a new issue/expiration date, shortening validity period of document. CODs renewed 60 days or less from expiration will maintain the same expiration month."

At $26/year, you probably didn't lose more than $5.
