Good morning. I'm looking to put a stern tie line on our new-to-us boat.
I've chartered a couple of Nordic Tug 42s over the last years in the PNW that were equipped with 600' of 3/8" polypro line. This line was invaluable in the Desolation Sound area for stern tying, and really helped us get into - and stay in - some places where we wouldn't otherwise be able to be for lack of adequate swing room. We used pretty much all of that 600' on a couple of occasions.
The NT42 is just about 32,000 pounds. The new boat (a Selene 43) displaces about 60,000 pounds.
Any thoughts out there as to whether a 3/8" line is sufficient for a stern tie set-up on the new boat? Preferable to beef it up to 1/2" or 5/8"? Of course, as I go up in size managing that long line is going to get more difficult.
Thanks -
Steve
