If you're planning a trip through the northern terminus of the AICW, note the following closures:

VA – NC – Dismal Swamp Canal, AICW Alternate Route, Closed:
The Dismal Swamp Canal of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is temporarily closed due to fallen trees from Tropical Storm Isaias. The locks at Deep Creek, Virginia, and South Mills, North Carolina, and the drawbridges on US Route 17 will return to their normal operating schedule when the fallen trees blocking the waterway are removed. Contact Joel Scussel for more information or questions at 757-404-2128. Chart 12206 (5th District LNM Week 32/2020) Also Check https://dismalswampwelcomecenter.com/ or https://www.nao.usace.army.mil/AIWW/ The Welcome Center reported that around 60 trees were down and that as of today, August 12, 2020, progress was being made and that they would have updated information when it becomes available.
