Greetings,
Hey. Maybe I can buy her back for less than $100K in a few months ....Ahhh, no.
I don't wish anyone any ill will but it IS a touch sad someone didn't get a good deal for a great boat and now will possibly have to pay more for her. As I said...Karma.

Edit: Mr. LM. Perhaps "man" isn't the most appropriate word....

Agree with SOF, you have a good attitude. Life is too short to worry about stuff like this. With that said, lets get back to the single or twin thread and how many times can one dissect a flies wing.

I’ve seen other examples of flipping boats over the past year. But those seemed to be buyers who bought a boat a year ago and recently resold for a modest profit, essentially getting to boat for free for a year. This Cheoy Lee seems like the most egregious example, not a user but a pure financial flipper.

Flipping may have been easy and profitable over the past two years, but might be more difficult going forward:

RT, just curious, how long was it listed for before you got the offer that purchased it?

Am I p*ssed off? Nope. I figured ~$130 in my pocket was a fair price. Is she WORTH more?
Geez, I thought I did well. I bought mine for $22k, and made a cool $8k profit after I spent $150k upgrading it and sold it for $30k.

While seeing a boat get "flipped" is a head-scratcher to me, I still can't get over that it didn't sell to a fellow TF member. Where are the buyers? I thought we had a ton of lurkers for purchasing. This was a stabilized boat with trans-ocean range.

After searching for 9 years we finally bought our boat, Defever 44 OC, a little over 1.5 years ago. It checked most of our boxes and we could live with any compromises. On our list of "Most Desired", it was #2. The Cheoy Lee 46 was #1. The $130K is much less than we paid for our Defever. I guess timing is everything.

Good job RT. Easy to see the work you did on her since I visited a couple of years ago!

Few minutes ago I posted this shocking [yet understandable due to current circumstances] today-revelation on TF's "Interesting Boats" thread. Feel I should post it here after learning of RT's recent experience. BTW - RT, you truly sound as a man with honor! Keep a tiff upper lip, and all that!!!

Unsettling sign of the times... I feel I should share.

Today we cruised our Tolly 80 +/- miles; Stockton CA [in SF Delta] to San Rafael [in SF Bay].

Even though it was beautiful weather and even though it was a new national holiday [Juneteenth]... during our very pleasant 8 hour cruise we saw only one [1] other pleasure boat on the water - - - for the entire freaking day!!!

One [1] power boat [other than ours] was to be seen in 80 miles of cruising SF Delta and SF Bay areas, during this beautifully sunny and calm water condition June 20th 2022 day.

That my friends is sadly interesting - and - truly a sign of the times I feel need to share!!

Certainly would like to know what it eventually sells for. I think the owner is in for a shock, and each month that the Fed raises rates, the boating market softens even more.

Perhaps we should start a new poll on TF. My guess is he sits on it until end of year or early next, then sells for about 150-170k at most.

People make their living buying and selling things.

Buy low sell high.

Cars, boats, stocks, real estate. Any commodity is the same.

If someone can buy RT's boat at a price that is agreeable to both parties and sell it for a higher price, that is Fantastic!

It's not scamming, or anything unfair, it's just business.

Greetings,
Mr. Mr. ks. Re: your post #35. Kinda raises the question of OUR broker's advice on what to price the boat at, doesn't it? C'mon. $100K more than what we were listing for?

Yes, perfectly legal, nothing unfair or unethical. Just emblematic of what most ‘business’ passes for in this country, and doesn’t actually ‘create’ anything or add any value (except personal profit for the person doing it).

Which (as I ranted about before) is why the U.S. is no longer the dominant economic power in the world, and slipping further down. We’ve largely forgotten how to actually make things. Our culture is obsessed with short-term profits. We’d rather make a penny overnight than a hundred dollars over a year.

Our economic heroes are no longer industrialists like Thomas Edison or Henry Ford, but hedge fund managers. Kindly called ‘arbitrageurs’, but more plainly just flippers.

It’s all perfectly ‘fair’. But then we shouldn’t be surprised with China eating our economic lunch.

Yes it does! Sorry, but I assumed that you determined the asking price.

It is also a challenge if your listing broker is in chahoots with the person who bought the boat.
