Cheap anchor!
Two failures, the weld and the connection to the rode. Rather an odd shape, too.

Interesting watching the line handlers walking away when they realize that it is going to hit.

Definitely the piers fault for being in the way.

The tug boats must have been out of town that day.

It was too late for line handling then, they would just get crushed.

On the + side, it did end up sitting nicely beside what was left of the dock.

I’m impressed by how well the bollard stood up that anchor.

Yup...don’t think any anchors are designed for that kind of loading

Poole anchors are designed for 10 million pounds of pressure... time for a warranty call

Umm, looks very familiar to a few of my docking jobs.
Looks like they needed a few tires off of that dock.
The bollard being in the way was just bad luck.

Looks like a welded anchor. The ship is only 390 feet. A Caribbean trader. Ship was probably built by a small yard and the owner was looking for a cheap anchor. I think besides a poor anchor design, there wasn't a thick enough weld fill between the anchor parts.

May be very high holding power anchor.
Notice the pivoting point for the anchor end of the shank is about in the middle of the anchor. That is a new deal in stockless anchors.
Yup welded plate IMO too.
