Bottom paint

I've been looking at a Viking 44 in the St Pete area and although the bottom looks to be in good shape it needs a bottom job, which in itself isnt a big issue. However, there is an excessive buildup of paint from over the years and some of it is chipping/flaking in a few areas. It has been suggested that I should probably have it blasted before repainting and I tend to agree after looking at it closely. Anyone have a ballpark idea of what the blasting should cost for a job like this?

We had an F32 Trojan soda blasted about 6 years ago and it was $35 per foot.

Bead blast + epoxy barrier coat + bottom paint on a 52' boat in 2018 was $12,000 in the PNW. If I remember the quote was $200/foot plus taxes.

$35.00 a foot doesn't sound too bad. Thanks.

Well remember that was about 7 or 8 years ago. We also live in a very small community and the prices here are pretty reasonable.

Its going to cost you a few grand for the soda or bead blasting. Painting it yourself is really pretty easy. Alternate colors of the barrier coat and the ablative, that way you can easily see when a recoating is needed.

You CAN do it yourself or hire a couple kids to do it under your supervision. The Admiral and I did one half of our 36 foot trawler. It was not fun. We had the other side blasted.
