Boat Grime at Cannes - aka Rich Folk Problems

Unfortunately, behind a paywall, but Wall Street Journal has an article that, due to a 500-year drought in Europe, boats at the Cannes Superyacht Show are prevented from washing their yachts with publically available water.

The Cannes yacht clientele, which includes some of the wealthiest people in the world, is not generally accustomed to compromise. Yachts, and mega yachts in particular—typically defined as boats longer than 80 feet—are among the most expensive merchandise money can buy. Dilbar, a 512-foot vessel owned by the Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov and now seized by the German government, is estimated to be worth $600 million.

“It was of genuine concern when we first heard about the situation,” said Simon Clare, marketing director for Princess Yachts, a manufacturer in the United Kingdom, as he sat on the Cannes docks under a scalding midday sun. “We immediately started brainstorming as to how to cope. Nobody wants to look at a dirty boat.” Using extra polish to keep the surfaces shiny was one stopgap, he said."​

I had the same thought - certainly those superyachts have industrial scale watermakers, don't they? How does Lovey Howell the Third take long showers and do laundry and fill the swimming pool on long voyages?

Surely they could switch from water to champagne. Vintage of course, none of that NV rubbish.
