I can't tell when that video was taken, but it doesn't reflect current conditions. Moreover, Avalon is typically very tolerable during Santa Ana's (which is when it is at its worst), IME. But, it can also turn deadly in those conditions, as it did a few Decembers ago.

I’m glad things have settled down. According to their FB page it was posted this Wednesday afternoon.

Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division on Catalina Island survey the damage to one of the Lifeguard towers at #Avalon harbor. Strong offshore Santa Ana #winds are expected to continue for Los Angeles County through Friday. #Hazardous marine conditions will exist. Mariners should stay up to date on current weather forecasts
