Anyone have the Passagemaker Magazine App on their Ipad?

I decided yesterday to sign up for a year's subscription, and after they took my money it doesn't work. All it does is ask me to sign up for a new subscription over again.

In my experience their web site is a total train wreck. I've had similar problems in the past, but unfortunately don't recall how I fixed it.

I also don't understand how anyone thinks there on-line magazine readers are in any way usable. Maybe my eyes just suck, but I can't read anything that small, and zooming on on each page is like reading through a straw. I always just download the PDF then read on my laptop or ipad using any standard PDF reader program. For me it works MUCH better.

The iPad app is pretty crap. But I use it as a print copy isn't going to happen for me in Australia.

Conrad, just make sure you login when trying to open up the new edition. I had similar issues to you, and at one point ended up with double, concurrent subscriptions. I contacted them and that got sorted out. The iPad now mostly remembers my login so I seldom have problems now.

I don't mind the enlarging action on an iPad, and do like it on the iPad so I have something to read if waiting around for something away from boat or home ie away from laptop. I read a newspaper on the iPad every day, so am quite used to the technique. But I must try the pdf download, that might be easier.

Same thing happened to me when I got the app. At the time, I believe you needed a second subscription so I dropped the app pretty quick. I think they have since resolved the problem but I still just read it on the PC.

Have you tried reading it in the iPad periodicals app? I purchased my subscription through the app so I just open it up and the icon is there along with a few other magazines I read. There may be a way to link your purchased subscription to the apple app which seems to work rather well.

I've had similar issues to others here. I downloaded the app but purchased the subscription through their web site. Managed to download the first issue and then I stopped being able to access any more. When I contacted them they replied that my subscription didn't start for another month. I don't know how that works but just went with the flow and waited until it started again. It seem their electronic subscription service requires some work.

I don't find reading it on the iPad to bad through. Try contacting them. They were pretty good when I did.

Don't use the app. When you get the email saying that your new issue is available, download it onto your device, save it to your library and access it through iBooks. Works great.

Thanks for all of your advice everyone. I'm inclined to just cancel the subscription or whatever it is supposed to be; my interest in PMM has declined significantly over the years and if they are going to make it a challenge to access their content I'm afraid I'm not that interested.

I generally enjoy it - but I can read the whole issue over lunch anymore - really the most interesting part of the December issue I thought was the review of the Helmsman because a couple of members are in the process of having them built.
