Hey All. Newbie here, looking for my first non inland-lake ship. I'm pretty sure I want fiberglass, non-wood exterior decking, single diesel (no need to go fast), 36 ft or less, flybridge would be great (but not a must), and preferably $75k or less. Need enough room for my wife, myself and my dog (and the occasional overnight guest couple). Mostly summer weekend runs in Lake Huron, with one or two long trips each summer (from Michigan's thumb area up to the Les Cheneaux Islands). I know I'm looking at older boats, and I know I need to find a good surveyor, but I'm curious: are any of the brands - hull or engine - generally more (or less) 'reliable' than others (all else being equal)? Are any hull designs more newbie friendly than others (the largest boats I've spent any significant time with are a 28 ft. runabout and a 30 ft. Pontoon/Houseboat)? Do any brands depreciate less quickly than others? Thanks, in advance, for any advice!
