In the PNW, we develop a fondness for clouds. They can be beautiful. This was the view from the fly bridge when we got back from dinner.Click image for larger version

We decided to spend out last night in the San Juans at Sucia Island. Haven't been here in a while and it is a special place as some of my Dad's ashes we're spread here.

Forcast was for SW winds so we decided to stay in Shallow Bay. I've not been here before. Only a few boats so we grabbed a state mooring ball. We are noticing the wakes from the commercial ships coming down the strait of Georgia and then through Boundary Pass.

Will leave early tomorrow for LaConner. Don't have reservations but we should find a spot.

Kinship out in Shallow Bay and Karen on shore.Click image for larger version

Just leaving Anacortes-Skyline. Anchor out at Bowman Bay, I think.

The weather did settle down nicely. Did you make it to Pt. Townsend?

We left Sucia close to sunup. My wife has been making it very clear that she doesn’t want any rough seas this trip. So, I’ve been avoiding them. So around here, that means avoid places where wind and current oppose each other. Sound wind this morning around 10 knots so I caught the ebb. Made for a a slower trip but the water was smooth. Went behind Lummi Island and then downs through the Swinomish to La Conner. I grabbed a time laspse of the trip and posted a quick and dirty version of it.

Yup. Caught a free yacht club slip at Boat Haven. I actually prefer the Point Hudson Marina, mostly because of the historical significance, but the liquor store is on this end of town, and a man has to have priorities.

Probably ease on down to Port Madison tomorrow and anchor out in Gig Harbor Saturday night.

No hurry to conclude my 5-month cruise. Gina is driving up for UPS Parents' Weekend on the 25th... then I suppose I'll have to go home <sigh>.

I’ll have another from La Conner to the South entrance a bit later.

Anchors.

OK, I thought I would do an update on my Sarca Excel that I’ve had on the boat now for three summers.

As I am fond of reminding folks, I was the first US buyer from the NA distributor for Sarca anchors. The anchor has worked very well for me. I can only recall twice that it failed to set on the first try. One of those when I was trying to set it on a large granite shelf.

This trip, I’ve anchored in a lot of mud and anchored in some windier conditions than I typically do. I’ve found that the anchor held well, even with short scope. I would also add that my boat tends to sail a lot at anchor, so the anchor is being tugged back and forth as the boat tacks back and forth.

After a night like that, I can’t break the anchor free with the windlass. I have to get the chain up and down, then snub it and drive over the anchor to break it loose.

So I am still very happy with the anchor. My only complaint, is that there is a 3 inch section on the top of the shank where the galvanizing has failed.

La Conner to South entrance of the Swinomish.

I cut this down to only 49 seconds. Left at dawn in cloud and drizzle so it gives a good sense of PNW boating.

Yeah, my daughter talked to my wife and they really want to see us tonight as they are going to be busy Sat and Sun. My daughter really misses my wife and my wife really misses our grandson. So, a long day today. Just now passing Blake Island. The currents didn’t help us today and I really miss that 1/2 knot or more that I am losing to a foul bottom.

I`m sure Sarca`s Rex Francis would be delighted. He may not respond but I hope he gets to read your post.
The gal failure is a shame. Can you sand back and cold galvanize it?
