Gulf Islands

A few photos from our recent cruise in the Gulf Islands.* Friends of ours from France joined us for part of the cruise--- he recently retired from Airbus which is where I originally met him---- and we got a rare (but brief) break in our usual 24-7-365 rain and fog so they could actually see where we were going.* The thousands of round things in the water in one of the shots are moon jellyfish.* The red engine is a make-and-break, hit-and-miss engine that was running at the Saltspring Fall Fair.* These engines only fire when the rpms drop enough to make the centrifugal governor send power to the spark plug.* Be a great boat engine......* The piece of floathouse art is titled "Bobbitt's Nightmare."

RE: Gulf Islands

Were the jelly fish at Genoa Bay? We were there 2 weeks ago and saw much the same thing, 1000's of little jelly fish floating in the bay. I saw a show on the Discovery channel a while back where they were talking about jelly fish in the worlds oceans. Pretty scary stuff as these little critters have the potential to decimate life in the oceans, can happily live and breed in toxic water, breed by the millions, live in any tmperature water etc. Oh well, enjoy it while we can.
Thanks for the pictures.

Was going through my SD card from our recent cruise and thought I'd stick up a few more shots.* You can get an idea of the length of a purse seine by the size of the silver seine boat hauling the net around over against the island in the right side of the frame.* The green Austin Healey 3000 was part of a fleet of them that had driven to the marina we happened to be visiting.* This is one of my all-time favorite cars--- I owned one for a year in college and like a dumba*s I sold it.* At the same time I also sold my National Match M-1 Garand, which was an even dumber thing to do than selling the Austin Healey

You will all be relieved to know that as of this week we are back to our usual weather of heavy rain, early morning fog, and plunging temperatures.* It will be like this for the next 12 months.

NOTE-- Not all of the photos seem to open when you open this post.* They are still there as little thin icons.* Clicking on the little icon should open the ones that don't open, or hitting reload might re-open all of them.
