Mississippi on the rise

Ron I just saw in the news paper that the Mississippi in quad cities was to crest at 20 ft above flood stage. Is the Northern lights II in the water or on land? Capt. Craig has his boat in Q.C area but not sure if the boat is in the water or still on land. How are the boaters in that area handling the high water? Good luck to all.
 
The forecast for the Louisiana gauge is to crest Monday evening at 25.5'. This will put 1.4' of water in the store, the ramps to the docks are under water. The boats will float up with the docks. I left & came home today & will be back next week. The marina has pontoon boats they use as taxi to get to the docks. The marina is well protected & no harm should come to any of the boats. I filled the water tank on Northern Lights before I left because they'll unhook the water lines to keep them from damage as the dock rises, no problem with the electric. A lot of trees & debris coming down the river.

Damn, last I heard on the forum the river was run'en dry. Stay safe guys and post some pictures.

The river here (L & D 14 MET) is supposed to crest tomorrow afternoon and stay at that levl for a couple days then start down. My Dad has a river front house about a half mile below LD14. I spent the day yesterday preparing for high water.. I am prepared for 14 ft. At the time yesterday, the predicted crest was 13 ft. Today at 10 they revised the prediction to 12.3. That will put 6 inches of water in the ground level basement. The house is raised and safe. I see the river has started to drop at LD 12 about 75 miles up river. I hope the heavy rain hols off up north. If so, about mid next week it will be pressure washer time in the basement and next weeknd can be spent getting back to normal. This is by no means a record flood, but it will definately be a top 10. My boat is out of the water and safe. My teak refinishing project that I was doing at the river house basement came to a screeching halt thanks to the high water. So It will probably be a few weeks before splash time.

Ron, I was thinking of you. I see on th computer that the river rose 5 feet at Louisiana MO yestrday. Yikes! Current crest prediction is 25.6 for mid day on the 22nd. The river is certainly wilder down your way. I know that well from my up river pilgramage back in june of 2011. In case you haven't found it or anybody else curious about river levels, Rivergages.com: Providing River Gage Data for Rivers, Streams and Tributaries
is the web site to get water level and predictions. If the link brings you to the general page showing a map. Choose level by 'stream' then choose 'Mississippi river' from the drop down boxes. This brings up a list of reporting stations for the entire river. Click on a staion that has a +/- at the begining and you get current conditions. From there you can click on prediction. The prediction usually goes 7 days out. Only stations with the +/- have prediction data.

I'll take a few pictures tommorrow and post.

Going to be slower going down here, lock #24 Clarksville, Mo had the gates wide open last Friday. This is a screenshot from yesterday, the latest has it going higher faster.
 
Cap'n Craig the river has dropped enough that it's off us-54, I'am waiting on a call for when IDOT opens it up for traffic. I'am hoping to be able to head back next Monday & get started again on my project list.
 
What a difference a year makes.
 
Riiver is definately on the mend. We dropped below flood stage at L&D 14 on Tuesday. We have two days of pressure washer cleanup done and not a lot left before the boat doors can be finished up. The river is still above flood in Davenport but is expected to be down in the next couple days. Only worry left is snow melt up north. Yes there is still snow up in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. I'll bet the folks there are ready for spring. It's very unusual to still have snow, but they do. I plan to call Al Gore tomorrow and ask where is my damn global warming? LLWT. Here's the flood prediction for Lousianna MO as of tonite.
