30 Californian updates

What a crazy winter. Well, let's see, I got the subfloor torn out, secured the frame underneath. Cut new wood to fit in over the frame and got it matched up neatly. Found the floor covering I want to use, and got the ring pulls for the hatch access to the engine area.
During that time, I had access to the engine room finally. I replaced the batteries on both sides, checked all the fluids and belts. Got the throttle and shift cables freed up. Removed the rot from the walls and am in the process of putting in a new core, and insulating. After that I'll rebed the windows and finish the interior walls with frp.

It has been exceptionally stormy up here this winter. I did turn the boat around in the stall so the wind hits from the bow instead of the stern. Just about got the windlass hooked up too. Today I was able to replace the lcd screen in the tachometer, and it is showing 1850 hours. Pretty happy with that, all in all the engine seems in good shape.

Our house flooded so that has taken a bit of time from my boat projects. I added a couple before and after photos of the floor project.

Fair seas!

-JB

Ps. sorry about the second photo it is upside down.

Californian 30 renovation update

Its been a while since I posted, have been steadily making progress on the Californian. This past weekend I finally got the 1 inch aluminum backed closed cell foam insulation finished throughout, after stripping all the funky rotted wood and repairing any obvious leaks. Also got the FRP paneling installed and feel like things are really coming together. Pulled the boat out last spring and spent ten days on the hard painting, replacing zincs, etc. Have gone through all the mechanical and electrical systems and just have a couple more small projects to knock out. Really love this little boat. I will try to post some photos of the progress. (Sorry I couldn't get that last image to rotate)

Looking great, Alaskan! Do you already have a heater installed?

That 30 Californian sure packs a lot into a small package. So great to see you bringing this one back to a long life.

I have two dickinson newport heaters one is solid fuel and one is diesel. I'll probably go with the diesel as I already have a day tank and all the parts, might as well. I wish there was room to put the diesel one on the bulkhead in the galley and have the solid fuel one on the other side of it in the v berth. That way if I wanted I could fire up the wood one once in a while. Not firm on the placement of the bulkhead heater. Also considering putting it in the galley at the base of the steps as that is central to the boat and also at the lowest point.
