I notice that some halverson owners quote their boats build/serial number, i would like to know where these numbers are located?
I have looked in all the obvious places.*
maybe the number plate is a recent addition? my boat was bulit in approx 1976.

My first image-Opps too big.** The build # on my 32 is on the Kong&Halvorsen nameplate.** On top it says IG 32-25*** The 25 is the hull number.*

RE: hull identity

I've located this number in 3 places: the Halvorsen nameplate located in the salon, in the Owners Manual on the page listing all the individual options of this particular vessel and in the hull ID number, Hull ID # IG32-139-***-98

mine must have been removed? nothing in the saloon,no owners manual. and i can't find a hull id number anywhere.
Pity because i would love to find out more about my particular boat. where she was built, launched ,original port etc.

The hull id number should be on the top, starboard corner of the transom, or near the top on the aft end of the starboard side of the hull.

RE: hull identity

Ditto Carey and Old Stone, that is where my hull ID is located, it was the first thing the marine surveyor looked for and he did a "rubbing" of the cast for the record.

I don't know about the law as such but there are boats out there with it on the top of the aft starboard side, as well as the stern, *just as Cary said.

My memory is too leaky, but I believe it became law in '71 or '72, for all boats sold in the US to have the Hull ID # embossed near the starboard aft corner of the hull. Don't quote me on this, as I was once mistaken, and it's bound to happen again.*

The HIN of our '73 fiberglass GB36 is stamped or machine-carved into the lower starboard corner of the transom just above the waterline under the swim step. It is just about impossible to see unless the boat is out of the water. This was the standard HIN location on GBs until whenever they changed the HIN position to the upper starboard corner of the transom.

The HIN on GBs contains coding that identifies the builder and the date of manufacture but I don't believe it contains the hull number.* Our hull number is on the builder's plate above the helm station in the main cabin.

Marin,* I am going to check this location for my HIN on my 1983 IG32.* My transom has a teak overlay from the builder. I believe the Kong in Kong and Halverson was the American Marine foreman at GB before joining with Halverson and a lot of the American Marine ideas have carried over to the early Island Gypsys.*I have to wait till my next haulout but this is one place I have not looked and I would like to solve the mystery.*

My HIN# on my Island Gypsy** KHE320250183**** KHE is for Kong and Halverson---32 for model size----025 is the hull number* 0183* is month and year of hull being layed up.* As I understand it.* The only place I have seen the full number is in the owners manual.

I learn a lot from you guys.**** JohnP** IG32* #25

RE: hull identity

The HIN on my Halvo GC32 (actually 34' SE) is on a stainless steel plaque on the*upper starboard corner of my transom. Undo 2 screws and it's off. There is an identical plaque on the port side stringer just forward of the engine.

Mystery Solved, I could not find the hull number on Adagio for over three years!

At last while working on the bottom, I found it.

It is just beneath the swimplatform slightly starboard of the centerline.

Made an etching, took a picture. Exciting--Guess you had to be there!

I believe the HIN on a GB does include the hull number but I'd have to look at ours to find out and I don't have the number handy here at home.

The number is also on the American Marine nickel plated builder's plate that on our boat is mounted on the center window teak valance at the helm.

The number on our builders plate in the salon is 32-25.

The model and hull number. But not the complete id number needed for vehicle identification.

Fancy on my old wooden trawler mine was a piece of 1/2 thick aluminum plate stamped with the HIN,Builder, date, what hull it was, Name of company as registered, Even the location built, it was under the front of the engine mounted on the stringer with screws that were drilled into cones i guess to stop someone from taking it off and tossing it. It was built in a back yard on Star rt 29, Harkers island.nc, In my research he built boats for 50 years using a band saw, Skill saw and metal templets of the stringer turn out for the Carolina flair. the shop was a pole barn with a metal roof. No sides doors or phone with a drop cord rolled out from his house every morning to use for the day ! Old school no casting or machine routing .

I just looked at the copy of our documentation certificate in my desk and our HIN is GNDC04031173. GND is the boat make code, 403 is our GB36 hull number, and 1173 is the month and year the hull was molded. I've known but don't remember what the C0 means unless the 0 is just to make the hull number four digits. In which case I don't know what the C stands for.

I was not clear in my previous post--- the hull number, 36-403, is on the builder's plate in the cabin. Not the HIN itself.
