1988 Albin double cabin trawler

I know I've posted a lot in several different brands, etc. sections of the forum, but I'm just that way. I need data. It's how I roll. looking at possibly buying this Albin 34 double cabin. it looks well kept, laid out decent to live on it, and has the Cummins 6BT engine. The end all, be all, diesel engine in my eyes and many others, since i'm a diesel mechanic. So maintaining this boat should be a breeze. Hello Drummer,
We have a 1986 Albin 34 double cabin trawler (Hull #3). The boat you're looking at has some modifications from ours. It has an extended swim platform, looks like an improvement. Our biminionly goes over the forward part of the upper helm, you goes all the way back - nice. Our flybridge is reached from a three step ladder on the top of the aft cabin and NOT from inside the saloon It seems like that layout would be awkward and i wouldn't like looking at the ladder from the settee. Our spacious saloon has a barrel chair and a sleeper sofa as well as the settee and a comfortable helm chair. All main for very comfortable living when on board. We have solar panels and are always at anchor or on a mooring. It does look to have been well taken care of.

I can see where that ladder might get annoying, but it looks like the aft one is still there. Maybe it's removable and only used when saloon isn't wrapped up for winter? Won't know til I see it in person.

My guess is after a couple of weeks you won't even see the ladder.

Thanks remarking our Captainpontoon avatar adds nautical theme.

There are several pictures of Albin 34' Bridge Trawlers, mine would be repetitious.

One feature we really like is the bow-truster for a single engine, helps when docking with a side wind blowing.

Marcy, could you tell us about sleep sofa in main cabin. I think it would block the port door. Does it do that or is it a fold away stowed sleeper?

For some reason, the yard had a hard time changing oil on our Cummins which had a 359 HP on engine metal tag, odd number. Can you explain?

Also found leaking fuel line to one cylinder. It started and runs well, only 1400 hours. Can you estimate gallons per hour around 8-10knots?

Big problem was air vent for fuel tank blocked making it impossible to fill without getting it open.

I will measure our sofa the next time we're on the boat. I have to figure out how to download pictures for you too. I have some of the saloon and also of the many modifications we've made over the years including solar, removal of the cushion at the back of the bed in the aft cabin and cut out a hole for access to the steering (and removal of the broken water tank), my husband made an insert with shelves for storage to fit at the head of the bed, we modified our rudder for better steering under auto pilot and in following seas, we removed the toilet in the forward head and installed a DryFlush (used by pilots and astronauts) because it was a long level run to the 30 gallon holding tank from that head, modified the icebox with an Isotherm condenser and thru-hull, added swim platform shower (hot and cold). The list goes on. Our engine is the Cummins 210 turbo.

Are you really in Oak Bluffs, MV? We go to MVoften but anchor in Lake Tashmoo and then ride our bikes to OB. Love the LookOut tavern!
