dingy while trailering

Our Ranger has a 7 ft alum rib with a 6 hp OB and it is hanging horizontally on davits (with the motor mounted) off the swim platform
It will be fine while on the water but will it "survive" if we decide to trailer the boat to another body of water (several hundred miles) if left on the davits.
Yes, it could be secured to the transom is some fashion.
But is this the best safest solution?

Will it fit on the tow vehicle? Bed of a truck?

Yes, the truck has an 8 ft bed so that's where I think I will put it when on the road.
I'll build a bracket and mount for the OB to keep it vertical.

Most outboard motors, even 4 stroke, can be layed on it's side. Check with manufacturer as to which side should be down. It's usually the side with tiller handle.
