Hi all

We purchased OMA with a one piece head door, instead of a Dutch door found most other manatees we have seen. I have successfully separated the door into two halves and RE- mounted. The admiral does not want the bolt style latch I was going to use to hold the two halves together. Nor does she like the selected hardware to keep the top half open.

What do other Manatees have for these two issues?

Pictures would be great!

Thanks

Paul

First Step

Hi Paul
I am looking at the same project, but paralyzed by analysis......can I ask if you installed the new hinges before you cut the door or cut the door and then install the hinges?
I have also been searching for lift off hinges to match the existing with no luck
Thanks

I mounted the hinges prior to cutting the door!!!! Made alignment easy compared to after....

Used a panel saw for the it and cut about 7/8 of an inch off off total (including the saw kerf)

I found the hinges on google. Don’t remember where, but if you google brass marine hinges you should be able to find. The ones I ordered were not exact matches but close enough to stand for the admiral’s inspection.

Where are you located. Would you like pictures?

Thanks Paul.....with the right search words Google did point me to Amazon. I think I was just avoiding the word marine ("$").
I am located in Sidney BC, pictures would be great and appreciated.

If I recall correctly, the original dutch doors just had a small bolt latch to keep them together. On my hull #56, it came with the dutch doors but the arc of the bottom door hits the half-step to the saloon, preventing the lower door from fully opening like the upper door. I’ve often contemplated doing something about this, but having the upper section fastened back does create the light and space needed as is. Anyway, I’ll try to remember to get a photo of the latch tomorrow.
