Boot Stripe Location

I have been searching unsuccessfully for information regarding the correct location of the boot stripe on a 1972 32' GB Sedan. About the closest thing I have found is the location of the screws for the graving plan. Any help would be appreciated.

This is our prospective new boat. At some point after this photo was taken her boot stripe was repainted and seems to curve upward at the bow.

Chances are if you look really close at yours you will see the old line if it's different.

Have you considered moving the boot strip up 1 or 2". I marked my floating line around the hull in the water. Then once out and dried out raised the boot strip 2" up from original.

Something to take into consideration,
When boats leave the factory they aren't striked with full water, load, tenders, gear and what not. My boat I raised the boot probably two inches as the bottom paint had to be moved as well. The stripe sat in the water as well as the white between the bottom paint and boot. This is probably due to six batteries in the stern, 100 full gallons of fresh water and a 500 lb tender. Either way there are reasons why someone might want or has had the boot changed through the years. I would load the boat the way you normally cruise and then strike the boot as the previous poster suggested.

Since we added a lot of goodies to our boat, the bottom of the boot top/stripe has descended toward the water surface or below it.

Follow the scum line for your paint line, even though it might not be a safe plimsoll mark?

(On a somewhat unrelated note, since I gave up smoking, my pants somehow have shrunk and I've had to buy new ones that seem to be mislabeled with a larger size)

Two inches above the waterline seems right to me. But it depends. When my boat is fully watered and fueled (about 500 gallons total), the stripe at the stern is almost touching the water. Recommend you consider how your boat reacts to different loadings before making final decision on stripe location.

Every boat I have had, has had a boot stripe that was too low until I moved it up. maybe that would be less of a problem if I jettisoned some of that rope I carry (see thread on lines aboard). I think a manufacturer's guess at where to put the boot stripe is likely to be wrong, for a lot of reasons. In practical terms, bottom pait to the top of the scum line, leave a one inch space if you have a white hull, then paint on a boot stripe of 4" midships, rising to 6" at the bow, 4.5" at the stern.

Bottom paint should come up to the bottom of the stripe.
