I have a 2003 Pilot 34 and would like to re-engineer the anchor so that it self launches. I am thinking about changing the anchor to a curved delta style but concerned about dinging the bow on retrieval. Any insight on how to accomplish a self launching anchor much appreciated.

hi,

we have a 2003 pilot 34. we've had it for 11 seasons and have used the same 40 lb spade anchor with excellent results. it self launchs and retrieves without hitting the boat. we did add a shackle, 2 links of 5/16" chain and a swivel. it automatically rotates to the proper retrieval position.

On my pilot 34 I am using a Ronca Vulcan 35 pounds. It works very well and deploys easily.

Duetto and oak greatly appreciate the quick and informed responses. I am going to replace the current anchor with a suggested Rocna Vulcan Galvanized Anchor, 33 lb. I believe the curve in anchor arm is what is needed to self-launch.
