Has anyone installed struts on a Mainship 40/400 to help lift and keep the stairs up that go down to the companionway? If so what length and strength?

I have been thinking about doing the same project on my MS 400. I found this article on measuring and installing gas struts: https://www.boatingmag.com/installing-gas-strut-hatch-supports/. Let me know how you make out.
