Marine Trader 110/12 volt outlets

Fellow marine trader owners, I need your expertise.
I have a 38 Marine trader sundeck model. All the outlets in the boat have the 110 outlet on top and the 12v outlet on the bottom. They look like a coventional home outlet. The switch on the 12 main panel allows the bottom plug to be inactive so that no one may put a 110 appliance in the 12v socket, What have you all done to correct this?Look forward to your responses
John

Well, there are a couple of solutions depending on how and what you use 110V AC and 12V DC power for:

The first thing to do is to ditch the combination 110v/12V outlets. They are a big safety risk. You have both 110V power and 12V power cables in back of those outlets, so this is what you can do with them.

1. Wire the 110V to a conventional two socket outlet, or maybe just wire it to both sockets of what you now have.

2. Wire the 12V supply to either a cigarette lighter outlet or a two socket USB outlet.

Or if you have a big 12V DC consuming appliance install one of the specialty 12V outlets and plugs such as Seadog makes. These are cleaner and more convenient than a cigarette lighter outlet. And there are lots of combination cigarette lighter and USB sockets.

I would do what David outlined. Immediately.
