Ferris Alternator

I am a Trawler neophyte and thankful for finding this Forum.
I am seriously looking at a 35 foot twin diesel engine Trawler that has a Ferris Alternator in the engine compartment. The original owner of the vessel is not available for questioning, however, it is my understanding that he used this device in the place of a generator.
Does anyone have any experience with a Ferris Alternator?
Kind regards.

Welcome aboard

Perhaps it's a Hamilton Ferris diesel DC generator?
