80 degree weather brings out the best and the worst in PNW Boaters:
Driving over to the marina today I crossed over the Swinomish Slough bridge between Burlington and Anacortes, Wa. around 1300 and looking to the North of the railroad bridge, what do I see? Looks like yet another boat . . . . maybe a 28' Sunbridge Bayliner high and dry on the sand flats at least 150' outside of the channel on a minus tide. Anybody else see this?
I always wonder how these things happen in a well marked channel, broad daylight, weather and water were perfect? A friend of mine runs a rescue recovery boat and he says he's pulled many boats off these sand flats:
So what do you suppose the skipper would have to say:

So what do you suppose the skipper would have to say:
- Boat lost power?
- No tide tables?
- Anchored in too shallow water?
- Using a cafe place mat chart or no charts?
- The wife or son were driving the boat.
- The other boats were going too slow, so I passed them.
- The Coast Guard didn't mark the channel well enough.
- There should have been "shallow water" warning signs.
- I'm from Seattle and no one mentioned the shallow water.
