We have just bought a Bristol Imperial 42. She was built in 1980. She requires quite some upgrading and here we need advice.
We live in a fjord on the west coast of Norway.

Firstly we would like to know which hight of mast we should get. Secondly which size of sail would You recommend?

Welcome to TF. It looks like the vessel you cited could be a sailing vessel or a motor cruiser. Could you post a link to the vessel you have bought, in order to get more accurate advice..? From your query re mast height and sail, one would think sail boat (yacht)..? In which case our membership might not be the best place to ask this, even though many of us did come from sail.

Our boat is s Bristol Imperial Trawler hence it is not a sailing boat. The former owner had an accident and broke of the mast. We need the sail as a stabiliser since the North sea on the the west coast of Norway can be quite rough. We need to know the height of the mast and size of sail for the Trawler .

As your vessel is a motor cruiser, and you just want the mast/sail combination as a stabiliser, I suspect you could decide for yourself the mast & sail size that fits the purpose, without fouling any other parts of the vessel. Perhaps a mast and sail from a small sailboat would suffice..? Where was the original mast base mounted..? Knowing that helps for deciding on the rest.
